For those of you who don't know...we are supposed to be getting a big, nasty storm. The newspaper calls it a "hurricane Juan-A-Be" which I think is fitting. Now I know that bad weather is nothing to take lightly but doens't this feel like some kind of big buisness marketing ploy? Like some wind and rain does not a bad storm make. John and I went for a drive this afternoon and ran into Sobey's to pick up stuff for desert tonight and what do you know?! A tonne of people are in there stocking up on water, batteries, candles, non-perishable food items, etc. Now I know it is better to be safe than sorry but really...do you think it will be that bad! So the media installs fear in the public (especially those who had lost power for an average 2 weeks or more when Hurricane Jaun hit in October of 2003), then they rush out in panic mode thinking "this weather will not get the best of us again" and then they spend the big bucks at Walmart, Sobey's, Superstore, etc on things they aren't likely to need. Although it will be a really big joke if this storm does hit us hard and John and I lose power, phone or whatever for any length of time. HAHA...We'll sure be eating our words then...
Anyways, myself, I enjoy the occasional storm. Especially the winter white snow storms we get a few times every year. I love staying home while the weather beats down hard outside and curling up with tea, a book or just playing games and being lazy.
I guess we'll have to wait to see the verdict of this "storm"....I wonder who will win? Mother Nature or the HRM metropolis? Hmm....we'll see!
