This Time Last Year...

This time last year things were a lot different for us! We were making some huge life changing decisions and feeling a little a lot unsure about everything. John's contract with Aliant was ending and he was offered a position with 2 different companies-DWS in Halifax and Emera in Saint John. We knew that the best long term career opportunity was with Emera, it was just a tough decision to list our brand new house for sale, quit my job and leave all our family and friends behind in Nova Scotia to head into the unknown. We chose together after many many long talks and late night discussions to make the move. We were both still so unsure of everything and scared! We wanted to be settled with a baby and here we were uprooting our lives...was this the right move?! We didn't know! This time last year we were moving John into the world's worst and most sketchy apartment, selling our house and I was job hunting with no pregnant belly! We lived as long distance husband and wife for about a month and a half! I was home in our lonely house packing things up each night I came home from work and John was living in the most disgusting apartment ever sleeping on an air mattress and watching TV on a lawn chair! We celebrated our first wedding anniversary that weekend moving our house and staying with Janet & Rick in that 'lovely' apartment-although we did have a really nice dinner out and a lot of laughs!!! On our actual anniversary-September 27th, John and I spent our last night in our first house. We had dinner at The Keg and then came 'home' to our empty house to eat the top tier of our wedding cake and cuddle on an air mattress (the only 'furniture' that was left in the house after moving everything up to Saint John that weekend).
We sold our house way faster than anyone expected and found a nicer home than I had expected here in New Brunswick.
Fast forward to one year later and look at us now. We actually have a nicer older house than we did our brand new house (lol). John's career is going awesome and I have a great job as well. We are pregnant and excitedly expecting our first baby this Christmas-the best Christmas present ever!! We are making some new friends up here while still seeing lots of our old friends in Nova Scotia. Our wonderful family and friends visit us often and we make plenty of trips home to see them as well.
Although we still miss being close to family and friends, we are 110% confidant this was definitely the move for us! I feel so content and happy! I just cannot believe things worked out so well for us!!

My phrase of the day has been: "It's funny how things work out."
